What’s In My Beauty Bag? Dubai Edition

My beauty bag has one job: get my face, hair and scent through a full Dubai day. That means hot afternoons, freezing malls and plans that run past midnight. Here is everything that has earned a permanent spot.

Skin savers for the heat

These three come out of the bag more than anything else.

  • An SPF I can reapply over makeup. A stick or a compact, never a runny cream. If topping up is messy, I will not do it, so it has to be easy.
  • A face mist. Mall air conditioning dries my skin faster than the sun does. Two sprays in the afternoon and my makeup looks fresh again instead of flat.
  • Blotting papers. Powder on top of shine turns cakey by evening. I blot first, then decide if I even need powder.

One warning from experience: never leave any of these in a parked car. Dubai heat will melt a stick sunscreen into soup in under an hour.

Makeup that survives the day

I do not carry a full face. I carry the four things that fix whatever the day has done.

  • Concealer. A small tube for under the eyes and around the nose, where makeup fades first.
  • A pressed powder compact. Mostly for the mirror, if I am honest. The powder is for the T-zone only.
  • A lip liner and a tinted balm. Liner keeps the shape through coffee and lunch. The balm goes on without a mirror, which matters when I am filming on the move.
  • Brow gel. Humidity undoes brows quickly, and tidy brows make the whole face look done.

Everything here is small, closes tightly and can be applied with fingers. If it needs a brush, it stays on my dressing table.

Fragrance on the go

This is the Dubai part of the Dubai edition. I would leave the house without lipstick before I left without scent.

  • A refillable travel atomiser. I decant whatever I am wearing that day, so my top-up always matches my morning layers. Full bottles are heavy, and glass and handbags do not mix.
  • A perfume oil roll-on. It is small, it cannot spill, and it lasts longer than a spray in the heat. A touch on the wrists before dinner is enough.
  • A hair mist. Lighter than perfume and kinder to hair. It is the quickest refresh after a day outdoors or a restaurant with an open kitchen.

I reapply once, in the early evening. More than that and the scent starts to wear me instead of the other way round.

The unglamorous essentials

Nobody asks about these in the comments, and I use them every day.

  • Hand cream. Sanitiser and AC are a rough combination. A small tube lives in the side pocket.
  • A plain lip balm. Separate from the tinted one, for when I just want comfort.
  • A claw clip and two hair ties. For the moment I step outside and the humidity makes the decision for me.
  • A mini hairbrush. Foldable, with a mirror on the back.
  • Mints, tissues and hand sanitiser. Not beauty, strictly speaking. Still the things I would miss most.

How the bag gets used in a day

A bag is only as good as what you actually take out of it. This is roughly how mine works from morning to night.

MomentWhat comes out
Before I leave homeTravel atomiser, filled with that day’s perfume
After lunchBlotting papers, lip liner, tinted balm
Mid-afternoon indoorsFace mist, hand cream
Before stepping outsideSPF top-up, claw clip
Before dinnerConcealer, powder on the T-zone, brow gel, perfume oil, hair mist
On the way homePlain lip balm, and nothing else

What I leave at home

Editing the bag matters as much as filling it. These stay behind:

  • Foundation. If the base needs redoing, concealer and blotting papers can handle it.
  • Eyeshadow palettes. Whatever I put on in the morning is the look for the day.
  • Full-size anything. If a mini or a decant exists, that is the one that travels.
  • Products I am testing for a review. I try new things at home first, so a bad reaction never happens halfway through a day out.

The honest summary

My beauty bag is not exciting, and that is the point. Every item has been through a real Dubai summer and earned its place. When I find something that does the job better, I swap it in and tell you about it.
